COVID-19 Update: Continuing Services and Supports

Dear Harbor Regional Center Community,

HRC is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and directives from the state, county and local public health officials, and our team is working continuously to respond in ways that promote the health and safety of our community.

On Friday we informed you that Harbor Regional Center had closed our offices. The majority of our staff is now working remotely to continue to provide services and support, during the statewide Safer-at-Home order. Our managers, and certain other staff who cannot perform their essential services remotely, are continuing to come into our office to support our community.

We know many of you have been very concerned as to whether our service providers can continue to provide their services. Others have expressed their concern that they/their family member and other clients should not continue to attend day programs, or to meet in person with individual service providers.

We are encouraging our day programs to support people remotely using technology in creative ways. This means that Service Providers will use digital technology to provide services, in place of in-person appointments. For example an ABA or early childhood development therapist, or supported living service might meet with you online via Zoom, Skype, Facetime, etc. Many have already been working to make this transition.Because we are all in the process of developing new methodology, we appreciate your patience and flexibility during this time.

We are working closely with our residential and supported living and supported work service providers in continuing to support our clients in their homes and on the job, and monitor those individuals who are most vulnerable.

Our respite service providers continue to be available to serve you. Many of our families are already working with a respite agency to receive participant-directed services with the trusted individual caregiver of choice.

In this way our Service Providers can continue serving you and your family, while also doing our part to protect health and safety, and minimize the spread of illness.

As always, we are here to support you. Our service coordinators can conduct regular meetings such as individual person-centered planning by telephone, at your request. Please contact your Service Coordinator if you need support or additional information.
