Harbor Regional Center observes all state and federal laws for the protection of the privacy of our clients and personal client information. The state law that is most relevant in this regard is the Lanterman Act. The federal law is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, usually known as HIPAA.

At Harbor Regional Center, we understand that privacy is a very important issue for visitors to the HRC Web site at www.harborrc.org. This page tells you how we protect the personal information that you supply voluntarily when you visit this site.

Personal Information Collection and Use

In general, you can visit the Harbor Regional Center Web site without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself.

The choice of whether to and how much personally identifiable information you provide to Harbor Regional Center is left completely to you and is voluntary. There are times when we may need information from you, such as your name, mailing address or e-mail address. You will be asked to supply that information voluntarily. Some examples of when we may need information are if you choose to register for a workshop online, make an online donation, submit a request to begin an intake application or request information for becoming a service provider.

Harbor Regional Center uses a secure, encrypted SSL checkout process verified by an SSL certificate, for personally identifiable information and credit card data used in submission of user information through application forms, workshop registration, e-commerce transactions or charitable donations. SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer, which provides endpoint authentication and communications privacy over the Internet using cryptography.

Except when required to do so by law, we do not share any of the personal information you provide to us with any third party other than service providers of ours who assist us in providing the information and/or services you have requested and who need to know the information in order to verify or fulfill your transactions with us. They do so in accordance with our agreement with those service providers, which state that the service provider agrees to comply with our privacy standards as described in this privacy policy. We will not sell, rent, lend or give your personally identifiable information to or share it with any other company or third party agency, except as permitted or required by law.

When HRC receives information about your session, we may use it as part of aggregated statistics for research or to improve our site. In general, IP addresses (the Internet address of a computer) are logged to track a user’s session while the user remains anonymous. This data is analyzed for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of our site users are visiting and how long they spend there. This anonymous information about your session or about you may be collected using technology such as “cookies” and “Web beacons.”
