On May 14, 2025, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) issued a directive (available in Spanish, with plain language translations) reinforcing protections for the privacy and rights of individuals receiving services when unauthorized parties make requests to access client records or information.

DDS issued a message to the community, which outlines a recent report that the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, known as CMS, this week provided Medicaid information for several states, including California, to the federal Department of Homeland Security.
