Harbor Regional Center (HRC) provides innovative and person-centered services, support, and information that empowers people with developmental disabilities and their circles of support to live their best lives in their culturally diverse communities.  HRC serves approximately 18,000 people with developmental disabilities, and their families, who reside in the South Bay, Harbor, Long Beach and southeast areas of Los Angeles County. HRC provides a continuum of support services including diagnosis and assessment, early intervention and prevention, individualized planning and service coordination, community living options, employment and vocational programs, as well as training and education opportunities for people served and their families. HRC is a private nonprofit corporation funded through a contract with the State of California Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

Under the direction of the Controller, the Accountant is mainly responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of supporting documentation and account analysis of general ledger accounts and the preparation of journal entries to the general ledger.  This role also requires frequent interaction with various levels of personnel in Accounting and other departments of the organization.

Essential Duties

Prepare journal entries to facilitate monthly and annual closing process.

General ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.

Accounting and reporting of related party transactions.

Review and processes operations payables, including leases and insurance; research questions and recommend resolutions.

Assist in the preparation of forecasts and budget analyses.

Tracking and reporting of grants and projects.

Recording and tracking of fixed asset inventory in accordance with HRC and DDS guidelines.

Provide back-up support for various accounting department functions.

Compiles and reviews material for financial statement audits and DDS audits.

Creates and responds to confidential documents, including contracts, insurance, and leases; and maintains related files.

Qualifications

Education and work experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting or related field;
  • Nonprofit experience a plus.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of AS400 a plus.
  • Ability to organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to work independently.

Work environment

  • Will spend time sitting, utilizing the computer.
  • Will spend limited time standing/walking throughout the facilities.
  • May lift up to 15 lbs. periodically.  If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
  • May stoop or stretch to access file cabinets, shelves.

Starting Salary Range: $49,941-$55,578
