Toilet Training

This 2 hour single session is for Caregivers of all HRC clients

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Client/caregiver readiness for toilet training
  • Common barriers to toilet trainings
  • Techniques to increase successful toilet practices, like wiping.

This 2 hour single session training is for Caregivers of all HRC clients

This training will address the following topics:

  • How to help caregivers reduce prompts for client to complete tasks and activities.
  • How to create opportunities for client to practice skills more independently.
  • How to support client’s efforts to be more independent.

For Caregivers of all HRC clients

Why tantrums, aggression, and other undesired/unsafe behaviors occur

How to respond to these behaviors

How to  reinforce desired behaviors and teach new behaviors

There will be six sessions will be held weekly beginning  Wednesday, September 14, 2022 and the final session will be held on October 19, 2022.  The weekly sessions will be two hours each.   These six sessions will be held via Zoom.

Obtenga información sobre la elegibilidad de IHSS, cómo se determinan las horas de apoyo, cómo prepararse para una cita con su trabajador de IHSS, quién puede convertirse en un proveedor certificado de IHSS y qué hacer si no está de acuerdo con una decisión de IHSS.

Learning About Benefits:

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

Presented by HRC’s Benefits Specialist, this workshop will focus on an important in-home support for HRC clients, available through the Medi-Cal program and run by Los Angeles County. Learn about IHSS eligibility, how support hours are determined, how to prepare for an appointment with your IHSS worker, who may become a certified IHSS provider, and what to do if you do not agree with an IHSS decision.

Presented by HRC’s Benefits Specialist, this workshop will focus on an important financial support for HRC clients, Supplemental Security Income, or SSI. The presentation will include information about the SSI program, eligibility criteria and benefits. Disability benefits, survivor’s benefits and dependent benefits and their effect on SSI will also be discussed.

Parent Mentor Program

A service for Parents & Caregivers

Harbor Regional Center (HRC) has a Parent Mentor Program to support parents and caregivers  to navigate systems that serve individuals with developmental disabilities, such as IHSS, SSI, MediCal, etc. The Parent Mentor can assist by providing step-by-step assistance with accessing services and supports. The Parent Mentor also assists with building a stronger connection between the client/family and their HRC team.
