Community Integration (Social Rec) Grants

Social Recreation for Children and Adolescents

In 2021, American Rescue Plan Act provided the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) $12.5 million for Grants for Enhanced Community Integration for Children and Adolescents (Social Rec Grants). Grants will fund projects that enhance and develop integrated and inclusive social and recreational programs for families, children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Parent Mentor Program

A service for Parents & Caregivers

Harbor Regional Center (HRC) has a Parent Mentor Program to support parents and caregivers  to navigate systems and programs that serve individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, such as IHSS, SSI, MediCal, etc. The Parent Mentor can assist by providing step-by-step assistance with accessing services and supports. The Parent Mentor also assists with building a stronger connection between the individual served/family and their HRC team.

Learning About Benefits: In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

Presented by HRC’s Benefits Specialist, this workshop will focus on an important in-home support for HRC clients, available through the Medi-Cal program and run by Los Angeles County. Learn about IHSS eligibility, how support hours are determined, how to prepare for an appointment with your IHSS worker, who may become a certified IHSS provider, and what to do if you do not agree with an IHSS decision.

The Self Determination Program (SDP) provides flexibility on who provides services and how services are provided. This orientation is designed to help you to learn about this non-traditional service model and understand the process in order to participate in SDP.
